Bishop Martino Scarafile, Bishop Emeritus of Castellaneta, Italy, has died.

He was 84 years old and had served as a priest for 61 years. His 31st anniversary of consecration as a bishop would have been on 6 January.

Cardinal Foley Died

John Patrick Cardinal Foley, Grand Master Emeritus of the Equestrian Order of the Holy Sepulchre of Jerusalem, has died.

For over 20 years, he provided the English language commentary heard by millions worldwide for Christmas and Easter Masses broadcast from the Vatican.

He was 76 years old and served as a priest for 49 years. He also served as a bishop for 27 years and as a cardinal for 4 years.

May he rest in peace.

With his death, the number of Cardinal Electors drops to 109 out of 192 living Cardinals.

Bishop Patrick Joseph Thomas Sheridan, Auxiliary Bishop Emeritus of New York, New York, USA, has died.

He was 89 years old and had served as a priest for 64 years. His 21st anniversary of consecration as a bishop was just 10 days away.

Last month was the 20th anniversary of his elevation to cardinal.

Kazimierz Cardinal Świątek, Archbishop Emeritus of Minsk-Mohilev, Belarus, has died.

He was 96 years old and had served as a priest for 72 years. He had also served as a bishop for 20 years and as a cardinal for 16 years.

May he rest in peace.

With his death, the College of Cardinals has 196 members with 114 of those eligible to vote should a conclave be needed.

The Diocese of Sylhet, Bangladesh was erected with territory taken from the Archdiocese of Dhaka.

Bishop Bejoy Nicephorus D’Cruze, O.M.I. was named its first bishop.

He had been serving as Bishop of Khulna.

Harris named Port of Spain Coadjutor

Archbishop-elect Joseph Harris, C.S.Sp. was named Coadjutor Archbishop of Port of Spain, Trinidad and Tobago, Antilles.

Gordon named Bridgetown and Kingstown Bishop

Bishop-elect Charles Jason Gordon was named Bishop of Bridgetown, Barbados, Antilles and Bishop of Kingstown, Saint Vincent and Grenadines, Antilles.

Bridgetown had been vacant since the retirement of Bishop Malcolm Patrick Galt, C.S.Sp. in May 2005.

Kingstown had been vacant since then-Bishop Robert Rivas, O.P. was named Coadjutor Archbishop of Castries, Saint Lucia in July 2007.

In addition, the Metropolitan of the Kingstown was changed from Castries, Saint Lucia to Port of Spain, Trinidad and Tobago.

Ezeokafor named Awka Bishop

Bishop Paulinus Chukwuemeka Ezeokafor was named Bishop of Awka, Nigeria.

The diocese has been vacant since the retirement of Bishop Simon Akwali Okafor in April 2010.

Bishop Ezeokafor had been serving as Auxiliary Bishop of the same diocese.

He was 75 years old and had served as a bishop for 21 years.

Yesterday was the 51st anniversary of his ordination to the priesthood.

The day before was the 20 anniversary of his elevation to a cardinal.
